DeveloperHiring is a Codility alternative for teams that need more than test credits. Codility Starter costs $1,200 a year for up to 120 invite credits and Scale costs $6,000 a year for up to 300, per its published pricing. Neither plan finds you a candidate. Ours adds sourcing, a coding task with hidden tests and an AI interview to the same subscription.

Why do teams look for Codility alternatives?

Codility is an assessment platform. You write or pick a task, invite a candidate, and read the result. That works when applicants already arrive in volume. It does not help when the open role has three applicants and none of them can code.

Most small engineering teams hit that second problem. They buy credits, send a few invitations, and spend the rest of the year with unused capacity while a recruiter or founder still searches for developers by hand. The credit price looks low, but the cost per hire includes everything outside the test.

The other common reason is interview evidence. A passing score tells you the code worked. It does not tell you the candidate understood it. Our AI interview asks each candidate about their own solution, and you read the transcript next to the code.

What does Codility cost compared with DeveloperHiring?

Codility figures come from its published plan comparison. Credits only cover testing, so the DeveloperHiring column also includes the sourcing and interviews you would otherwise buy elsewhere.

Codility Starter per year

$1,200

Annual billing only, up to 120 invite credits and one platform user. About $10 per credit if you use every one.

Codility Scale per year

$6,000

Up to 300 invite credits, capped at 25 a month, with three platform users and custom task building. About $20 per credit at full use.

DeveloperHiring Startup per year

$1,188

Billed yearly. Includes candidate sourcing, 40 coding tests and 15 AI interviews each month, with no placement fee.

Startup costs $99 a month billed yearly or $199 billed monthly. Team costs $299 a month billed yearly and Scale costs $749 a month billed yearly. Compare limits on the Startup, Team and Scale pricing page. A full breakdown of invite credits and per hire cost is in our Codility pricing article.

When Codility is the better choice

A sourcing and screening subscription is not right for every team. Codility fits a different situation.

  • You already have a large applicant flow. If hundreds of people apply, test capacity is the bottleneck and credits solve it.
  • You need enterprise integrations. Codility Custom lists Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday and SAP integrations, SSO and API access.
  • You test for roles beyond engineering. Codility covers SQL and multiple-choice tasks as well as coding.
  • You want a standard task library. Scale adds a larger library with custom task building for repeat campaigns.

How do you hire with DeveloperHiring instead?

Four steps from the role description to an offer your team controls.

  1. Step 1

    Describe the role

Paste the role, stack, location and overlap hours. Review the skill matrix and screening questions before the search starts.

  2. Step 2

    Get sourced candidates

We search public developer profiles, your hosted role page, imports and referrals, and score each match against the role.

  3. Step 3

    Review the evidence

Candidates complete a coding task with hidden tests and an AI interview about their solution. You compare code, transcript and scorecard side by side.

  4. Step 4

    Make your offer

Meet the ranked finalists and agree pay directly. There is no placement fee, so each hire costs only the plan you already pay for.

A strong task looks like the job: data access, validation and edge cases, graded by hidden tests. Read how the candidate explains their decisions, then use the developer coding assessment and the technical interview workflow to prepare your final round.

Questions about Codility alternatives

The best Codility alternatives depend on your gap. HackerRank and CodeSignal are the closest test-only products. DeveloperHiring suits a small team that also needs candidates, because sourcing, coding tests with hidden tests and AI interviews come in one flat subscription instead of separate tools.

Codility Starter costs $1,200 a year for up to 120 invite credits, and Scale costs $6,000 a year for up to 300 credits, capped at 25 a month. Custom requires a quote. These are annual prices from its published plan comparison, and they cover testing only, not candidate sourcing.

Codility has no free hiring plan. Trials go through its sales team rather than a self-serve signup, while Starter can be bought online on annual billing. Ask what a trial includes, then test it on a real role before you commit to a year.

Startup costs $1,188 a year billed yearly, close to Codility Starter at $1,200, and includes sourcing, 40 coding tests and 15 AI interviews a month. Codility Scale at $6,000 costs about five times as much. You still pay each developer directly in either case.

A Codility invite credit is the unit that limits how many candidates you can invite within a subscription. Divide the plan price by the included credits to get a cost per credit, then ask when a credit is consumed and whether unused invitations return credits.

For most small engineering teams, yes. Candidates complete a timed coding task with hidden tests, then an AI interview about their own solution. If you need Codility's enterprise ATS integrations or video proctoring, compare them against our Scale plan before switching.

No. DeveloperHiring has no placement fee, so you pay the subscription and the developer you hire. Codility also charges no placement fee, but it does not source candidates, so recruiter time or agency fees usually sit outside its price.
