CodeSignal sells hiring assessments as credit plans, and the plan you need depends on how many candidates you will actually test. If you are an engineering manager or founder hiring two to six developers a year, the real question is what each hire costs once credits, missing candidates and your own review time are counted. Our developer coding assessment page shows what a task with hidden tests looks like.
TL;DR On CodeSignal's pricing page, Build costs $79 a month billed annually ($948 a year) for 60 credits, and Grow costs $479 a month billed annually ($5,748 a year) for 420 credits. Pro is quote only. Extra credits cost $20 each. DeveloperHiring Startup costs $99 a month billed yearly and adds sourcing, 40 coding tests and 15 AI interviews each month.

CodeSignal costs $79 a month on Build and $479 a month on Grow when billed annually, which is $948 and $5,748 a year. Monthly billing costs $99 and $599. Pro has no public price. These are the Hire plans listed on CodeSignal's pricing page.
| Plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly | Credits | Yearly cost at annual billing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Build | $79 a month | $99 a month | 60 a year, or 5 a month | $948 |

Build includes the core technical assessments, AI interviewers for product, design and engineering, a library of about 2,000 questions, and AI proctoring with ID verification. Grow adds more agentic assessments, go-to-market assessments and basic ATS integrations. Pro adds the full library, advanced fraud prevention, role-based access, enterprise ATS integrations and a dedicated customer success manager.

What is a CodeSignal credit?
A CodeSignal credit is used when a candidate starts an assessment, an AI interview or a live interview, not when you send the invitation. A candidate who never opens the link costs nothing. A candidate who starts an assessment and then an AI interview uses a credit for each. After the included credits run out, on-demand credits cost $20 each, billed on the next cycle.
At full use, Build works out to about $15.80 a credit and Grow to about $13.70. If you use half of them, the real price per credit doubles. Plan for your expected tested candidates, not your best case.
How much does CodeSignal cost per developer hire?
CodeSignal's cost per developer hire is the yearly plan price divided by the hires it supports, before sourcing and your team's time. At the listed annual prices, two hires on Build is $474 per hire and on Grow $2,874 per hire. The table assumes you use the whole plan.
| Developer hires a year | Build per hire | Grow per hire |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | $474 | $2,874 |
| 4 | $237 | $1,437 |
| 6 | $158 | $958 |
Those numbers look small because they only cover testing. If you test ten candidates for every hire, six hires use 60 credits, which is the whole Build allowance, and each extra candidate adds $20. The expensive part of hiring a developer is finding ten qualified people to test in the first place.

Is CodeSignal free?
The pricing page lists paid Hire plans only, so budget as if there is no free tier for employers. Ask sales whether a trial is available and what it includes. Run any trial on a real role, and check that your own engineers trust the scores enough to skip a screening call.
What do buyers actually pay for CodeSignal?
Third-party buyer data shows much higher spend than the entry plans. Vendr reports a median buyer paying about $24,000 a year, based on roughly 60 purchases. That figure mixes enterprise contracts with very different needs, so it is a negotiation reference, not a small-team price. Vendr also estimates 15 to 30 percent discounts for multi-year commitments, which is an estimate and not a CodeSignal rate.
Is CodeSignal cheaper than DeveloperHiring?
CodeSignal Build is cheaper per year than DeveloperHiring Startup at list price, but it only covers testing. Build is $948 a year and Startup is $1,188 billed yearly. Startup also sources candidates and runs AI interviews, which on CodeSignal means more credits or another tool. Grow is $5,748 a year, about five times Startup.
| Plan | Yearly price | Candidate sourcing | Testing allowance | AI interviews |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CodeSignal Build | $948 | Not included | 60 credits a year | Share the same credits |
| CodeSignal Grow | $5,748 | Not included | 420 credits a year | Share the same credits |
| DeveloperHiring Startup | $1,188 | 150 candidates sourced and scored a month | 40 coding tests a month | 15 a month |

When CodeSignal is the right buy
CodeSignal fits a team that already has plenty of applicants and needs a standard, scored assessment at volume. Grow suits a company screening hundreds of candidates a year across engineering and non-engineering roles, and Pro makes sense when you need enterprise ATS integration or advanced fraud controls. In those cases the bottleneck is screening capacity, and more credits solve it.
What are the best CodeSignal alternatives?
The best CodeSignal alternatives depend on the gap you are filling. HackerRank and Codility are the closest test-only products. DeveloperHiring Startup fits a small team that also lacks candidates, because sourcing, coding tests with hidden tests and AI interviews sit in one subscription. The Codility alternative comparison covers the test-only vendors side by side, and the technical recruiting platform overview shows how our pipeline runs.
If you share a take-home task or a private repository with finalists, have them sign a mutual NDA before you share the task, then keep the signed copy with the scorecard.
Which CodeSignal price should you budget for?
Budget from the published annual price of the plan that covers your expected tested candidates, then add $20 for every credit beyond it. Treat Vendr's median as a ceiling check, not a quote. Choose CodeSignal when assessment is the gap. Choose Startup when you also need candidates and interviews, and compare the allowances against your next hiring campaign.
